Lieutenant John Rivera began his law enforcement career with the City of Rosenberg in 2006 as a Patrol Officer, serving the community in the Patrol Division for over five years. He went on to serve nearly seven years in the Criminal Investigations Division as a Detective, gaining extensive experience investigating crimes against persons, property crimes, and internet crimes against children.
In 2019, Lt. Rivera returned to the Patrol Division as a Patrol Sergeant before being selected the same year to serve as the Administrative Sergeant. In that role, he took a lead position in hiring and recruiting new personnel for the department. In 2022, Lt. Rivera was assigned to the newly formed Operations Division, where he continued to oversee recruiting while also supervising the Community Relations Unit, Strategic Enforcement Team, and Investigators assigned to regional Task Force units.
In 2024, Lt. Rivera was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in the Operations Division. He now commands the division’s various units and continues to play a vital role in shaping departmental operations and community engagement.
Lt. Rivera holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Sam Houston State University (2006) and is a Master Peace Officer, certified by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.
