RDC Wins StatewideWorkforce Excellence Award for Collaboration with TSTC

ROSENBERG, TEXAS (June 11, 2017): The Texas Economic Development Council (TEDC) announced the annual winners of its community-based Workforce Excellence Awards (WEA) for 2017 on Thursday, June 8, 2017.  The Rosenberg Development Corporation (RDC) received the Workforce Excellence Award for its collaboration with Texas State Technical College (TSTC)-Fort Bend.

The Workforce Excellence Award program recognizes exceptional contributions by a Texas community that has implemented successful workforce initiatives. The TEDC’s Workforce Development Committee reviewed applications from twenty (20) communities. Nominees were judged on five criteria: innovativeness, transferability, community commitment and leverage, measured objectives, and secondary benefits.

In 2015, The RDC entered into a performance agreement with TSTC to provide $2.5 Million of funding over a ten-year period, to assist in funding the campus.

“We are very fortunate for the opportunity to partner with one of the states’ premier technical training institutions in TSTC,” said RDC Executive Director Randall Malik. “The campus has ensured that we can provide access to a skilled workforce for our current employers, as well as future employers. The WEA award recognizes the tremendous impact TSTC-Fort Bend has had on the local and regional economy.”

The campus, which opened in the fall of 2016, is scheduled to open a second building this fall. Ultimately, the campus is projected to have six buildings and will accommodate about 5,000 students.

“Our TEDC’s Workforce Excellence Award is one of the ways in which our organization honors the outstanding work done by our communities and regions, their leaders, and their economic development professionals in the area of workforce development,” noted Carlton Schwab, President/CEO of the TEDC.”

The TEDC was organized in 1961 and provides information, education, and legislative services to its members to foster the expansion of existing businesses, the location of new firms, and the development of strategies that promote a positive business climate in Texas. With over 850 members, the TEDC is the largest state economic development association in the nation. END.
